1 |
Open the Mail Admin program, if it's not already open. |
2 |
Choose Advanced Settings from the Server menu. |
|
The Advanced Mail Server Settings window appears. |
3 |
Click the Protocol tab. |
|
 |
|
The Mail Server's Protocol settings appear. |
4 |
Click the checkbox next to each protocol that you want to enable
so that a checkmark appears. |
|
When a protocol is enabled, your mail server can send and receive
mail from client applications that use the enabled protocol. |
|
For a summary of the mail protocols supported by the AppleShare
IP Mail Server, see Single-server mail service. |
5 |
To disable a protocol, click its checkbox so that the checkmark
disappears. |
|
When a protocol is disabled, your server cannot send or receive
mail from client mail applications that use the disabled protocol. |
6 |
To change the protocol's Response Name, type a new domain name
in the Response Name text box next to the protcol. |
|
The protocol's "response name" is the name that is sent to the
contacting server when a network operation using that protocol
takes place. Changing this name can sometimes help limit unsolicited
mail. |
7 |
Enter the port number over which you'd like to communicate when
the enabled protocol to its left is being used. |
|
Each protocol, or service, has been assigned a standard Internet
port number. However, you can choose to re-direct a protocol to
a non-standard port if you so desire. |
|
Note: Only SMTP has both an In and Out port. That is because SMTP is
the only protocol that can connect to a server to deliver or receive
mail. |
8 |
Click Save. |
|
Your changes are saved and take effect immediately. |
